Practical Exam System for Medical Colleges Completely Changed
The change involves
moving from traditional viva voce examination to Objective Structured Viva
Examination (OSVE).
During a meeting of the Academic Council and Boards chaired by VC Prof. Ahsan
Waheed Rathore, it was decided to conduct Oral/Practical/Clinical Examinations
using Objective Structured Practical Examination (OSPE), Objective Structured
Clinical Examination (OSCE), and Objective Structured. has been. Viva
Examination (OSVE) Formats.
OSVE has been implemented as a reliable method to assess students, focusing on
their conceptual understanding and professional expression.
The test format is
introduced based on a circuit of ‘stations’, with specific learning objectives
assessed at each station.
While OSPE and OSCE have already been used, OSVE, which will be used for the
first time in Pakistan, has proven to be effective in the assessment process in
various countries.
Additionally, this
year, the first professional MBBS aspirants will undergo assessment through 12
observed stations in the practical test of each subject under the university’s
new modular syllabus.
The 12 stations will
include seven for OSPE, three for OSCE, and two for OSVE. Each station will be
monitored by external examiners, while the students’ regular teachers will not
act as internal examiners.
