Israeli Forces' Actions in the West Bank Escalate Amidst Gaza Conflict

As the conflict in Gaza continues, violence has surged in the occupied West Bank, resulting in the deaths of at least nine Palestinians, according to the Palestinian health ministry. Since the outbreak of hostilities in Gaza on October 7, Israeli troops and settlers have reportedly killed at least 75 Palestinians in the West Bank, as per ministry figures.

The latest casualties occurred during Israeli raids on the Nur Al Shams refugee camp in Tulkarem, where seven Palestinians lost their lives, including a 16-year-old boy, as reported by the Palestinian health ministry. Israeli forces claim they are operating in them camp to thwart "terror activity."

The Palestinian Red Crescent has stated that its medics treated 25 individuals in Nur Shams, with the majority suffering from gunshot wounds. The organization also reported that
ambulances, with injured individuals on board, were being detained by Israeli occupying forces.

Additionally, two other Palestinians were killed in separate incidents in the Dheisheh refugee camp and the town of Budrus, according to the ministry.

These incidents come as Israeli forces have intensified their raids on Palestinian towns and villages and conducted a widespread campaign of arrests in the West Bank. These actions follow the solidarity protests held by Palestinians in the West Bank in support of Gaza.

The conflict in Gaza began after the Palestinian group Hamas, which governs the Gaza Strip, launched an attack on southern Israel. In response, Israel imposed a "complete siege" on Gaza, leading to severe shortages of water, food, electricity, and fuel for the 2.3 million residents of the strip. Gaza has also endured relentless bombardment, resulting in the deaths of at least 3,785 people, according to Palestinian health authorities.

Protests in the West Bank have intensified, particularly following reports of an explosion at a Gaza hospital,
which Palestinian authorities claim resulted in hundreds of casualties. These protests have also targeted the Palestinian Authority (PA), which has faced criticism for its security coordination with Israel.

During these demonstrations, PA security forces used tear gas and stun grenades to disperse protestors calling for the removal of President Mahmoud Abbas. Israeli authorities in the occupied West Bank have arrested over 600 individuals since the start of the conflict.

Palestinians in occupied East Jerusalem have also expressed concerns about increased harassment by Israeli settlers and security forces.
